Amakhosi twice came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw against Richards Bay FC in a thrilling DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) encounter at the Sugar Ray Xulu stadium in Durban on Sunday.
Entering the second half a goal behind, Matala Makhubo equalised in the 51st minute before they fell behind again midway through the half. Makhubo restored parity in the 74th minute with his second goal of the match to claim a share of the spoils for the Glamour Boys.
The result sees Chiefs join Stellenbosch FC at the top of the national U23 league table on 14 points, only trailing by goal difference, after seven rounds. Next up, Amakhosi have an away fixture against Polokwane FC on Sunday, 20 October.
In the SAFA Gauteng Development League (GDL), young Amakhosi had a mixed weekend, during which they faced a double-header against Joburg City and Tuks respectively.
On Saturday, Chiefs proved superior to Joburg City at every level, with the U13s winning5-0, the U15s doing the same, the U17s scoring a 2-0 victory and the U19s ending the day with a 2-1 triumph.
The boys began Sunday’s clash against Tuks in Pretoria well, with the U13s winning 2-1. The U15s drew 1-1 and the U17s ended goalless, while the U19s went down 3-0 in the last encounter of the round.
