Ahead of Kaizer Chiefs restarting their 2019-20 Absa Premiership campaign on Wednesday against Bidvest Wits, Amakhosi have picked up another individual award with Lebogang Manyama’s match winner for Chiefs against Orlando Pirates on 29 February being voted as the best goal in the league for February/March.
This Absa Premiership goal of the month was Manyama’s sixth league goal of the season. It was a well-taken goal by the attacking midfielder. After receiving a pass on the right from Samir Nurković, he moved horizontally to his left, gliding past Fortune Makaringe. He then turned towards goal and drilled the ball from the edge of the Pirates penalty area over the outstretched leg of Happy Jele and past the despairing lunge of Wayne Sandilands to give Chiefs the lead in the 30th minute. The solitary goal ultimately turned out to be the game winner.
The victory over Pirates in February’s Soweto Derby saw Chiefs complete a league double over the Buccaneers for the first time since the 2005-06 season. Chiefs won the earlier league clash between the sides back in November.
Manyama becomes the third Chiefs player to win an Absa Premiership goal of the month award for the 2019-20 season. Dumsani Zuma won the award for November and Nurković picked up the award for December. Manyama has contributed towards 14 goals in the league this season - scoring 6 and making a further 8 assists.
Manyama’s award for goal of the month for February/March is added to a list of other individual awards won this season by Chiefs players which has seen them win the Man of the Match award in 16 league games, as well as coach Ernst Middendorp’s three Absa Premiership coach of the month awards and Daniel Akpeyi’s Absa Premiership player of the month crown for September/October. ;
Amakhosi look to adding more awards in the next 8 games.
