Amakhosi midfielder Mandla Masango kept up his good goal scoring record for the South African U-23 team as he grabbed the only goal of the game as Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba’s team defeated Mauritius U-23 in Port Louis 1-0 on Thursday.

The game one of two against the Mauritians is being used by Mashaba to prepare his team for the first leg of their second round Olympic Qualifying Game against Benin on June 4 in Cotonou.

Speaking to kaizerchiefs.com after the game and commenting on his second half goal which was enough to win South Africa the game an ecstatic Masango said “I regard the goal as the best in my career so far, the execution was good and technically as well.”

Masango who has featured prominently for the national U-23’s in their bid to qualify for the 2012 London Olympic Games praised his teammates for being able to play in difficult conditions against their Mauritian counterparts.

As he continued his long distance conversation kaizerchiefs.com saying, “credit to the team for getting down and playing well on a pitch which was uneven and made things very difficult.

For us to have been able to have won the game shows that as a team we are improving and are adapting to playing on different playing surfaces and under varying climatic conditions.”

Amajita are now focusing on their next game against their Mauritian hosts which will serve as their final warm up game ahead of the crucial game against Benin, “this was a good preparation match for us, it definitely does a lot for our confidence and is a major boost for us.

We playing again on Sunday, we pleased to have won this game but we know there is always space for improvement for the next game. With Sunday’s game been our final one ahead of the qualifier we would like to win it as well.”

South Africa defeated Libya over two legs in their first round Olympic Qualifying Game; Amajita won the first leg 4-2 with Masango getting amongst the goal scorers, the second leg ended goalless.
