Mandla ‘Bullet’ Masango was back at the Club’s HQ, Kaizer Chiefs Village on Wednesday morning following the failure of U23 to qualify for London Olympics.

The Baby Bafana managed two draws and lost against Egypt in Morocco on their quest to become the first team to qualify for showpiece since the Class of 2000 that qualified for Sydney Olympics.

“I am very disappointed that we have missed out on an opportunity to play in the Olympics. In football you lose some, you win some. We have to keep our heads high and focus on the next challenges” he told kaizerchiefs.com on Wednesday.

Masango attributed the failure to qualify for the London showpiece to the failure to convert chances and inadequate preparation; “We should have won the games against Ivory Coast and Gabon.

We created lot of chances that we could not convert. When we eventually scored we lost focus and allowed the teams to come back.

“I also feel that the teams we played against had more time to prepare as compared to us. I think with more time together ahead of the Championships we could have done better.

Masango dismissed suggestions that there was no enough quality to Morocco.

“We showed in the first two games that we can stand our own despite the absence of some of the guys.

All we needed was to take our chances and keep things tight at the back but we have learnt a lot as a group from the tournament.

“It is time now for us to set new goals. I am back here at the Village and my first objective is to fight for starting berth in the team. It remains my ambition to win cups with Chiefs and go on a represent South Africa at the highest level.

Having played for all the junior teams from the U17 I would like to believe that I have acquired experience that will in the future help me to take my game to the next level,” said Masango who scored the goal for the U23s against Gabon in the second game having missed the opener against Ivory Coast.
