Given that he did not feature in a string of matches before having to fill in for the injured Zhaimu Jambo during Saturday’s Soweto derby, many felt that Masenamela would not be able to keep up with the pace of the game.
According to Punch being in good physical shape allowed for him to fit in the Chiefs defence without any problems, “I do believe that physically I am in good shape, even though I might not have been playing regularly I have kept working on my fitness. Which definitely made it easy for me to keep up during the Pirates game.
As a team we are ready for any eventuality injury’s and suspensions all the guys are in good shape, regardless of whether they in the starting eleven or not.”
Masenamela’s ability to come off the bench and fit into the Chiefs system according to him is an indication of the team’s overall depth, “it is not just me or at the back but overall we are fortunate to have a really strong squad.
It is good for the team to have such depth where there are a few guys who can fill in a certain role, also off the field the players are really looked after at the club, which means that we can go about our job without any added distractions. Which really helps as we go in search of silverware.”
Masenamela is now looking forward to Saturday’s clash with Santos and is hoping to get a run out against the Capetonians at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
“Santos defeated us just over a week ago in a league game and that loss is still fresh in our minds. We do have a score to settle with them and we have a score to settle with them”.
Masenamela’s aim is now to add another Telkom Knockout winners medal to his collection, “myself and the rest of the guys would all love to win the Cup again, right now we are up for the challenge that Santos will pose on Saturday.”
