“Tsepo's knee swelled up after the match against Bloemfontein Celtic,” reports physiotherapist David Milner of Kaizer Chiefs’ Medical Team about Tsepo Masilela’s withdrawal from the Bafana Bafana squad. “Tsepo has a well-documented history of knee problems, which needs to be looked after carefully.”

“It was therefore decided that he needed to rest for seven days,” adds Milner. “Tsepo is currently getting an alternative opinion overseas on how to manage the knee. Once the knee is settled, he should be able start training again in about ten days’ time.”

As a result of this, Masilela was unable to report for South African national team duty.

The Medical Team also reports on the other players that are out injured or are recovering.

Philani Cele’s foot will remain in a moon boot for another four weeks. He sustained an ankle injury at training.

There is, however, good news on Morgan Gould, he’s recovering well from his Achilles tendon injury and he’s now in full training, being able to play 30 minutes in a recent practice match.

Daniel Cardoso is having another X-ray next week and an update on his shin bone injury will then be provided. David Zulu has a torn ligament in the ankle and will be going for surgery on Friday.

Simphiwe Mtsweni will be out of his moon boot in two weeks’ time and will start the process of full recovery.

Brilliant Khuzwayo will have an X-ray on the two broken bones in his hand on 11 September. The goalkeeper is currently doing light training to keep fit.

Amakhosi’s next fixture will be away to Supersport United at Polokwane’ Peter Mokaba Stadium on 12 September.
