One loss in fifteen Premier Soccer League meetings against Free State Stars makes for good reading if you a Chiefs fan, Amakhosi midfielder David Mathebula aims to make it win number eleven in league matches for Chiefs against Stars since the Free Staters and The Amakhosi first met in a PSL match in 1996.
On top of that Chiefs are also unbeaten away from home this season, and Mathebula believes that they can return from the Free State with that record in place. The tricky midfielder is also aware of the fact that Stars have dropped very few points at home this season, and he believes that the experienced Duncan Lechesa can take a lot of credit for that.
Records up for grabs
Can Chiefs inflict just their third home loss of the season on Stars waits to be seen? Mathebula feels that with the large contingent of supporters at every Chiefs match both home and away, it will not be of a concern to them that they playing away from home.
As Mathebula explains, “they have been doing well at home and we have a good traveling record, so it waits to be seen who will prevail. We have a long track record to up keep against them and we certainly want to do that, obviously the reason they third on the log is because they have been getting the right results. We obviously want to change that and it is up to us to take the game to them”.
Lechesa praise
Mathebula has also sounded praise for the 31-year-old Stars captain Duncan Lechesa and said, “having a player as experienced as Duncan can really help a team especially when they have so many young players. We saw in the earlier game against us just what an influential figure he is in his team, he is the captain and if he does not hit the right notes it affects the rest of the team”.
