Kaizer Chiefs are in the Eastern Cape city of Gqeberha tonight to face Chippa United in their 12th Betway Premiership game of the season.
The clash is Amakhosi’s first league encounter in a month, following the team’s participation in the CAF Confederation Cup, which has left them playing catch-up with other teams who have already completed one or more additional matches.
On the log Amakhosi sit in fifth position with 22 points after 11 outings, while the hosts, Chippa United find themselves rooted at the bottom of the log in 16th place after playing 14 games.
In the squad today, the Glamour Boys will be delighted to welcome back Khanyisa Mayo who has made full recovery from injury.
Mainly due to the respective injuries they suffered in the early minutes of the last match against Zamalek SC of Egypt, Amakhosi will be without Bradley Cross, Gaston Sirino and Sibongiseni Mthethwa. This has prompted the technical team to make three changes to the team that started against Zamalek. Cross is replaced Paseka Mako at the back, Lehlogonolo George Matlou takes Mthethwa’s spot and Sirino replaced by Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.
Additional tactical changes will see Dillan Solomons make way for Thabiso Monyane; Mfundo Vilakazi is in for Mduduzi Shabalala; Asanele Velebayi starts ahead of Pule Mmodi and Etiosa Ighodaro will be replaced by Flavio Da Silva, bringing the total number of changes to seven.
The coaches will go for a 4-3-3 formation
The trusted Brandon Petersen is in goal.
Mako will be at left-wingback, with Inacio Miguel at centre-back alongside Zitha Kwinika and the right back will be Monyane.
The middle of the park will see Matlou in the holding midfield role. He will be supported by Ngcobo and Lebohang Maboe, who starts his second match for Chiefs.
In attack, Velebayi is on the left wing and Vilakazi will cut in from the right.
The match officials are referee Jelly Chavani. He is assisted by Kamohelo Ramutsindela and Oscar Tsotetsi, with Siyabulela Qunta as the fourth official.
The Betway Premiership match between Kaizer Chiefs and Chippa United will kick off at 19:30 at Nelson Mandela Bay stadium in Gqeberha. The match will be live on SuperSport’s PSl Channel 202 on DStv and various SABC radio stations. There will be regular updates on the Club’s X (formerly known as Twitter) account, @kaizerchiefs.
