Mbesuma, the league leading scorer with 23 goals, appears in three categories - Golden Boot, Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season while Zwane was nominated for the Players’ Player of the Season. Professional players in the Castle Premiership vote for the winner of the Players’ Player of the Season.
While Mbesuma is guaranteed to walk away with the Golden Boot, the league listed three other players, Sandile Ndlovu of Dynamos (18 goals), Lungisani Ndlela of SuperSport United (10 goals) and Mulondo Sikhwivhilu of Black Leopards (10 goals) as potential winners.
"The league is not over yet," quipped Mvela Golden League general manager Andrew Dipela. "Miracles do happen and anything can happen."
Indeed it will take a miracle for Sikhwivhilu and Ndlovu to score 14 goals or more in their remaining fixtures. United have two games to go while Leopards have one match against Moroka Swallows on "Super Sunday". Perhaps Ndlela might have a case as he will have to score six against Golden Arrows, provided Mbesuma does not score in Bloemfontein.
Chiefs were also nominated in two other categories – the Coach of the Season and the Perfectly Balanced Team of the Season. Amakhosi coach Ted Dumitru will contend the Coach of the Season award against Pitso Mosimane of SuperSport United and Pirates’ Kosta Papi. Pirates, Chiefs and United will contest the team of the season.
The winners will be announced on May 25 at the PSL Awards, to be televised live on SS3.
