Chairman Kaizer Motaung at Ellis Park Memorial

Beloved Friends, Soccer Lovers, Families and relatives, we are here today to remember the 43 souls we lost on the fateful night of 11 April 2001.

Though the tragedy happened exactly two years ago, it actually feels like yesterday to me and I guess to all of us who witnessed it. The reason for that is simple; there is nothing that can replace the value of human life, it is too

costly to substitute and yet too precious to reinstate.

Over the two years behind us we have interacted very carefully with each other in our plans for games, we have walked a very tight road of caution and care, along that road we have picked up very important lessons on which we shall further the course of righteousness and justice for all that love the game of soccer.

We have had to soldier on with you in the fight against recklessness and carelessness. We had to harness all efforts and resources available to improve the situation in which the supporters of the game find themselves.

The battle for perfection and efficiency is still on. We continue to pull all strings at our disposal to mobilize smooth running and reliable safety systems to ensure a better life for every soccer lover during our games.

This morning we are here to pledge more commitment towards that vision. We trust that this assurance and the practical application of improved systems are beginning to play a role of a healing balm in our wounds made by the

loss of our 43 beloved friends and those who got injured on that regrettable evening. We still mourn that loss and we shall always do.

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord lifts His countenance upon you and give you peace. The Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you.

AMEN
