Mguyo’s funeral

“Mguyo was a very special supporter,” Kaizer Chiefs’ Katlehong Supporters Branch chairperson Jeanette Mahlangu reflects on Samuel ‘Mguyo’ Temane, who passed away last week. The Amakhosi supporter’s funeral will be held on Saturday, September 27, in Katlehong (from 9am to 12:30pm).

“I have known Mguyo for 24 years,” continues Mahlangu. “He was full of energy. Also, he would never boo one of the Kaizer Chiefs players. That was not him. To be honest, he was often so busy supporting the team, that he didn’t even know the score. That’s how Mguyo was, always backing the boys!”

To honour Mguyo, several members of the Katlehong Branch had taken placards with text written on it and photos of the Amakhosi supporter to the MTN8 final. “Mguyo was so committed,” she adds. “So completely in love with the club. We visited Mguyo in hospital a few days before his passing away. He had not been awake since the operation. When we stood at the side of his bed, we said: ‘Mguyo, we are Kaizer Chiefs fans.’ He immediately opened his eyes and reacted: ‘Yo, yo!’ Then he went back to sleep again.”

Mahlangu concludes: “We will miss him dearly!”
