Coach Ernst Middendorp was visibly disappointed after going 3-1 down to Zesco United in Zambia on Sunday. However, he still sees enough positives to be able to progress to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
“We created numerous chances today,” the German coach remarked at the post-match press conference. “If we get these opportunities again next week, we will have to take them. If we do that, we are still in with a chance.”
The coach was impressed with his defence against Bidvest Wits on Wednesday, helping Kaizer Chiefs to a 2-0 win. Middendorp, however, was less happy on Sunday, “Our defensive work was a bit weak.”
Positive is that Amakhosi got a crucial away goal scored in the first half by Khama Billiat.
It means that a 2-0 win against Zesco United at home on Saturday evening, 19 January, at FNB Stadium will be enough to go through. Kick-off is at 20:00.
Tickets for this second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup pre-group stage round are already on sale at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers at R40.
