Knowledge Musona’s opening goal for the Amakhosi during their 2-0 defeat of SuperSport United on Wednesday evening, saw the Zimbabwean become the first Chiefs player to score in a league game at home against Matsasantsa in over 675 minutes.

Chiefs last managed a goal at home against SuperSport during a 2-1 loss to United in September 2002, Musona was pleased to have contributed by rewriting the stats book.

“I was not aware that it was such a long time that Chiefs had not scored against SuperSport in a home game, I did know going into the game that they did give us problems in the past” he said.

On managing to finally break the drought he said “I am very happy that I managed to score that goal, not just that it won us the game but also because it helped the club put an end to an unwanted stat.

Getting over these kinds of psychological hurdles is always important and hopefully the win over SuperSport can keep us moving in the right direction.”

The goal against United also takes Musona level at the top of the Absa Premiership goal scorer’s charts with Katlego Mphela on 12 league goals, and he has spoken of the importance of grabbing his first goal in over two months for the Amakhosi saying.

“I am glad that I managed to score against SuperSport it was some time since I scored my last goal, sometimes it happens that you go through a period where you do not score any goals. I have been working very hard in training and it has all worked out for the best.

This goal is good for me on so many levels it has boosted my confidence and my morale, I did not really feel any pressure when I was not scoring but I am glad that I did get number 12. My hope now is to maintain that and try to score a few more goals in the remaining games of the season.”

Musona is now looking ahead to Chiefs next game against Mpumalanga Black Aces on and is banking on the win against SuperSport to give them a boost for the game in Polokwane on Saturday evening.

“It was really important for us that we won against SuperSport, games in hand are not always points in the bag, so winning is a big advantage for us as it helped us come to within three points of the leaders.

Aces will be difficulty to play against because they trying to avoid relegation, for us it’s again about getting down to work and going all out for a win.”
