Limpopo currently does not have a team campaigning in the Absa Premiership with both Dynamos and Black Leopards campaigning in the first division.
“Spanner” as the player is affectionately known could not contain his excitement on the prospect of playing in front of his home fans when Kaizer Chiefs join Brondy (Denmark), Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United in the launch of Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, 23 January 2010.
“I remember playing there for the U-12s during the days of Ria Stars. We would play a curtain raiser when the smaller teams came there but when teams like Chiefs came it would be difficult even for our parents to take us to the stadium as it was always full,” recalled Molekwane.
“It is an honour that I am returning there now as a Kaizer Chiefs player and I am very excited about the prospect of playing in the newly built World Cup Stadium. It is the coach’s decision on whether I play or not but the tournament means a lot to the people in Limpopo. They have seen the stadium on television and now they have an opportunity to watch first class football starting on Saturday.”
“I have no doubt that the stadium will in a long run have positive spin off in the development of football there,” said Molekwane who admitted to be inundated with calls from people in his province who are going to watch Chiefs playing in Polokwane in a very long time.
The Glamour Boys last played a game in Limpopo back in December 2007, “We have a huge following all over the country and I am sure that our fans are going to fill the better part of the stadium.”
Personally I would like to get a run but then again the team is the most important thing. Our objective is to do well as the team and transfer that to the game against Moroka Swallows and the games that are going to follow after that one,” added Tlou.
