“It’s been a good season, for me personally and the team as a whole,” reflects defender Wade Moodley on the 2018/19 MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC) season. “It’s a bit disappointing that we are not getting any silverware seeing that we’ve really developed as a team compared to the beginning of the season.”
The final round of the MDC, dubbed the Diski Finale, sees the top four sides on the log within reach of winning a first title. Kaizer Chiefs Reserves sit in fifth just missing out on a chance of contesting for honours in the most hotly contested MDC season to date.
Chiefs Reserves, however, have a hand in deciding the outcome of the 2018/19 MDC season. The young Glamour Boys face log leaders, Bloemfontein Celtic Reserves who can ill afford to drop points with the chasing-pack of Cape Town City Reserves, Polokwane City Reserves and SuperSport United Reserves in hot pursuit.
“We’re focused on trying to finish third,” comments Moodley with a stern look. “The ideal outcome is nothing less than a win. We’re going to go out and give it our best and start looking forward to defending the MultiChoice Diski Shield.”
Chiefs Reserves have by some margin the highest goal difference in the MDC and are in position to defeat three of the four teams that sit above them on the log. “It sums up our season as whole,” analyses Moodley. “We only peaked halfway through the season unfortunately. If there was a second round to the season, I think we would have gone on to win the MDC.”
Moodley, who admits to mirroring Brazilian fullback Marcelo’s style of play, scored in the 3-0 drubbing of Cape Town City Reserves in the last MDC outing.
Before joining Chiefs at the beginning of the 2018/19 season, the 22-year-old had a stint in Europe where he was on the books of Spanish outfit Elche. Prior to that, he played in Malta for Gudja United before turning out for St. Andrews in the Maltese Premier League.
The left-back will be looking to apply his learnings overseaswhen Chiefs Reserves aim to spoil Celtic Reserves’ party in the Diski Finale on Saturday, 23 February. The 13:00 clash at Tembisa’s Makhulong Stadium will be the potential decider of the 2018/19 MDC season. The match will be broadcast live on SuperSport 4, DStv channel 204.
