Wednesday night’s game also helped Shaun clear a major hurdle as he got his first official goal for The Amakhosi, and he is now waiting for Ajax Cape Town with bated breath.
For Bartlett finding the back of the net was just as important as finding his feet, as he went in search of an improvement in his form from his previous outing against Benoni Premier United on the weekend.
“I felt that against Cosmos I put in the kind of performance that I know I am capable of displaying week in and week out, after a performance like Wednesday nights one does feel that you have shown what you can do for the team,” added Bartlett.
What about that first goal “obviously it was nice to get the goal especially because it came after we had gone down two nil and if we had any hope of getting something out of the game we had to strike back straight away. Credit must also go to Arthur for the way he fought off the Cosmos defence to send in the cross which lead to the goal,” said Shaun.
The former Bafana Bafana striker is now confident that he can reach the targets he set for himself at the start of the season as he continued, “I had set certain goals for myself and by scoring my first goal for Chiefs I do feel that many more will follow, I needed to find some sort of rhythm and I think I have found the right beat which will help me get more goals for the team”.
Shaun has also dished out the plaudits for his team mates in the way they responded to the challenge after conceding the second goal against Cosmos, a complimentary Bartlett said, “The guys really showed a lot of character and rallied round to ensure that a real team effort brought us back into the game. It is really important to know that we have a group of guys who will fight with everything they have for the team, the guys got involved in tackles and continued running until we got the equalizer and we even pushed for a third goal which eluded us but was attainable”.
As Chiefs get ready to face Ajax Cape Town Bartlett believes that The Amakhosi can put one over Muhsin Ertugral’s team on Sunday afternoon, “Ajax have also had a slow start if we keep shape and don’t make any errors early on we could be in for a happy afternoon on Sunday. It is imperative that we get early goals and keep Ajax under pressure like we did for the most part against Cosmos, they will buckle under continued pressure and we will get goals” concluded Bartlett.
Chiefs will journey to Kimberly on Sunday for this weekends clash against Ajax as Shaun goes in search of adding to his tally of goals as well as trying to chase down the run away train that is Chris Katongo who leads the goal scoring charts with five goals from three games.
An added impetus for Shaun going into Sunday's game is the fact that Ajax hail from Cape Town, which happens to be his home town and in their make up are part Cape Town Spurs one of Shaun’s first professional teams. Seven Stars and Cape Town Spurs amalgamated to form Ajax Cape Town in 1999, prior to that Shaun played a big part in guiding Cape Town Spurs to a League and Cup Double in 1995.
