Kaizer Chiefs Executive Chairman, Kaizer Motaung was honoured on Sunday, 27 May 2012 during PSL Awards by the PSL Chairman, Irvin Khoza for his ‘outstanding contribution’ in the development of football in South Africa.
Motaung, one of the brains behind the formation of Premier Soccer League back in 1997 is one of the longest serving administrators in football with over 40 years of experience.
In accepting the Chairman’s Award Motaung paid a glowing tribute to all those who have contributed to his success since he started playing football in the streets of Phefeni and then at Orlando Pirates as a teenager before moving to Atlanta to play for Atlanta Chiefs.
“I must admit that I am surprised by the award and never saw it coming,” said the visibly emotional Motaung after receiving the award from Dr Irvin Khoza.
“Having spent the better part of my life in this game I want you to know that all that I did was because of my love for this beautiful game,” he told kaizerchiefs.com Monday afternoon.
“I would like to thank the Chairman of the Premier Soccer League, Dr Irvin Khoza for the honour. I would like to dedicate the award to all those who have been part of my football journey.
“Thank you to all those that I have shared boardrooms with, and for me the most important thing has always been teamwork. I am honoured to have worked with such passionate people throughout my involvement and I have no doubts that we will continue to strive and take football in this country to unprecedented heights,” added Motaung.
