The first 45 minutes was clearly dominated by Chiefs who played like a team possessed. AmaZulu really struggled to get hold of the ball and were outplayed in all areas of the park.
It was all out attack for the Amakhosi from the first whistle and seeing that they controlled almost 80 percent of the possession it was inevitable that they would score in the first half. That goal came as early as the 13th minute when Kaizer Motaung Jnr scored his second goal of the league season.
Abia Nale drove down the left flank and whipped in an inch perfect cross that found the head of Motaung Jnr. The Chiefs’ striker made no mistake with a clinical header from six-yards out to give his side the lead, 1-0.
Eleven minutes later only the brilliance of Nhlanhla Khuzwayo kept the score down to one. Josta Dladla let rip with a thunderbolt from about 20-yards out that saw Khuzwayo at full stretch to his right to tip the effort around the post with his finger tips.
Still, despite that near miss the Phefeni Glamour Boys continued to pile on the pressure and they did find their second goal in the 36th minute when Motaung Jnr grabbed his brace for the night.
The goal was almost a replica of the first; the only difference being that the attack originated down the right flank this time. Captain Jimmy Tau drove down the right wing and provided an accurate cross to find Motaung Jnr unmarked inside the area and again he proved his worth with a powerful header that found the back of the net, 2-0.
Two minutes before the half time break Chiefs came agonisingly close to finding their third goal. Abai Nale, again causing devastation down the left, provided a great pass for Knowledge Musona to run onto.
The Zimbabwean striker then fired a snap shot on goal which succeeded in beating the keeper, but only struck the woodwork and bounced away from danger.
AmaZulu were mere spectators in the first half and a lot would have to be done in the second 45 if they were to pull this game out of the fire.
The second half did see the visiting side come out revived team and had the better of the second half. To be honest Chiefs seemed to go to sleep in the second stanza which helped AmaZulu have the better of the half.
AmaZulu created attack after attack and were finally rewarded for their efforts in the 78th minute when Tangeni Shipahu, for the second game in a row, scored for the KZN side. The Usuthu player rounded off a well worked passing movement with a fine finish from only six-yard out, 2-1.
The goal seemed to awaken the Kaizer Chiefs team and they quickly responded with their third goal three minutes later.
Zhaimu Jambo scored a peach of goal when he let loose with a powerful 25-yard shot that found the top right hand corner of the net, 3-1.
That is the way the game ended as Chiefs got back to winning ways while Usuthu suffered yet another defeat.
