Given Msimango is looking forward to facing his former club this Sunday, when Amakhosi travel to Nelspruit for a DStv Premiership encounter with TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium.

The accomplished central defender has hit the ground running since joining from The Rockets ahead of the new season, and has become a firm fan favourite following his sterling performances in his first three games for the Club.

“The feedback from the games is all positive, all good,” he says,. “What stood out for me was the support, the atmosphere at the games was truly magnificent. We could feel the support and that, for me, was a key factor, the number one factor, in me performing the way I did.. It is motivating and to see it happen every game is fantastic so I look forward to every game.”

“Also,” he adds, “When it comes to applying the technical and tactical side, I think I have done very well, according to the team’s principles and structures, so I can only build from that going forward and keep improving my game.”

On Sunday, Msimango will come up against the team he finished last season with. Galaxy have had a decent start to the new campaign, winning one and drawing their other league match to date.

“I’m looking forward to the game. It is going to be a good one. They are a good team, playing well and we are a great team playing well, so it’s going to be a good fixture for us,” he says.

He says it will feel special to run out as a visitor on his old stomping ground. However, he is clear in his mind where his priorities now lie.

“That’s where emotional intelligence comes into it,” he says firmly, “Obviously, it’s emotional to play against your former employers, people that gave you a platform and opportunities to shine at the highest level of South African football, the PSL, but I have to keep that in check and focus on the task at hand. I need to do a job for my current employers, which s Kaizer Chiefs, my new family and help them get maximum points.”

Being one of the players that departed Galaxy at the end of last season, Msimango nevertheless knows Sunday’s opponents remain a dangerous proposition.

“They have had a lot of changes, like any other team. They lost a few key players last season but the players they have brought in have kept up the quality and the team is playing well. We just need to go there and win and make our supporters happy.”

The DStv Premiership match between TS Galaxy and Kaizer Chiefs kicks off at 15:00 on Sunday, 20 August at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.
