Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Marco Mthembu was discharged from the Milpark hospital on Wednesday after being diagnosed with bacterial pneumonia after the Coca-Cola Cup clash with Hellenic in Cape Town on Sunday.

Doctors have ordered Mthembu to rest to allow his immune system to recover, which means he will be out of action for at least two weeks.

He is expected to be available for the Mandela Cup second leg game against Club Africain in Tunisia.

It would be unwise of Mthembu to take any chances with a condition as serious as pneumonia. Usually, when a person's resistance is lowered, the bacteria works its way into the lungs and inflame the air sacs.

As a result oxygen has trouble reaching your blood. If there is too little oxygen in your blood, the body's cells can't work properly. Because of this and spreading infection through out the body pneumonia can cause death.

Kaizer Chiefs wishes Marco a speedy recovery and look forward to his continued involvement during the rest of the season.
