Amakhosi striker Knowledge Musona beat off competition from teammate Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Orlando Pirates midfielder Andile Jali as he picked up the award as the player of the tournament for the 2010 – 2011 Telkom Knockout Cup, at the annual Premier Soccer League awards which were hosted at the Gold Reef City Complex in Johannesburg on Sunday evening.



Musona was instrumental in Chiefs run to a record 13th Telkom Knockout Cup triumph as they eventually defeated arch rivals Orlando Pirates 3-1 in the final back in December.



The Chiefs striker who is currently in Harare preparing for a CAF 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier with the Zimbabwe national team who will face Mali next Sunday, had his award collected by Chiefs marketing director Jessica Motaung.



Kaizerchiefs.com did manage to get hold of the Amakhosi hit man who spoke of his happiness at winning the prize, “I did previously mention that it was a wonderful season for me, especially given that it was my first full season and winning the Telkom Knockout was a great achievement for the entire team.



Winning this prize in addition makes what was a fantastic victory in the Telkom Knockout Cup all the more sweeter.”

The Zimbabwean international who scored two goals during Chiefs run to victory, he first found the back of the net in this seasons Telkom Knockout Cup when he scored the Amakhosi’s second goal during their 2 – 0 Quarter- Final win over Free State Stars and in addition he made the most of a goalkeeping error to grab the solo goal in the 1-0 semi final win over Santos.



He accepted the award with all humility and humbleness as he also said, “as a team we played well throughout the Telkom Knockout Cup, and we enjoyed winning the cup. Every game took a great team effort and this award is for the entire team.”



Chiefs successfully defender their Telkom Knockout Cup in 2010 – 2011 and Musona’s win meant that Chiefs defended another award from the 2009 – 2010 competition, as Arthur Bartman was voted as the tournaments best player that time around.



Also At the awards ceremony held at the majestic Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City there was also a symbolic handing over of the Telkom Knockout Cup trophy, Amakhosi skipper Jimmy Tau was on hand to receive the trophy that he held aloft on the podium at the FNB Stadium on December 4 last year.



The award came with a R200 000 cash prize.
