“We are playing a team that is doing well in the bio bubble,” coach Ernst Middendorp shares his thoughts about the game against Bidvest Wits. “The loss to Sundowns on Thursday is water under the bridge but we have many positives to take out from that match.”
With three games to go, Kaizer Chiefs will visit Bidvest Wits for an Absa Premiership clash this afternoon at FNB Stadium.
“After the last game, we had two days to recover and get ready for this afternoon,” says Middendorp. “In the bio bubble, the selection is not cut and paste because the players are taking the punch with the games coming thick and fast. We will have Samir Nurković returning from a one match ban. He will give us options insofar as our attack is concerned.”
Amakhosi go into this game tied on points with Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the log. Chiefs though have a better goal difference. Wits are in position five on the log.
“Wits are very solid, and they have good players in their squad,” adds Middendorp. “They have not lost a match in the bio bubble. “They have quality players like Thulani Hlatshwayo and Thabang Monare who are very good in their positions. They will be a handful, but I think we are prepared to do well against them today. It is a must win for us.”
Chiefs and Wits have already met in the bio bubble. Nurkovic scored in the 36th minute of the game, only for Cole Alexander to cancel out the lead in referee’s added time.
“It was still early in the resumption,” Middendorp points out. “A lot has changed since then. So that game will not offer much in terms of our reference. We must go in the game and execute our plan. We want to win this one - it is important.”
Lebogang Manyama will undergo a late fitness test. “Lebo is struggling a bit with tight muscles,” confirms Middendorp. “We will wait for the doctor’s guidance before we take a decision. Otherwise, all is good, and we are looking forward to kick-off.”
The match takes place at our official home ground FNB Stadium, kicking off at 15:30. Live commentary will come through twitter @KaizerChiefs as well as live broadcast via SuperSport 4 and SABC radio stations.
