His no nonsense defending won him many accolades including Head Coach, Vladimir Vermezovic who described the Burundian as one of the most important players in his squad.
In wishing the player a successful sendoff, Football Manager Bobby Motaung said, “Kaizer Chiefs has agreed to release Valery Nahayo to pursue a long desired wish in the tough and challenging European League from 01 July 2011. We are very happy and wish he succeeds at his new home after diligently serving us for three seasons. As part of this deal, his departure has also created an opportunity for the two clubs to foster relationships beyond the transfer of players.

Gent Business Manager, Michel Louwagie was pleased with the professionalism showed by Kaizer Chiefs during the negotiations, “We sent two scouts to follow the player early in the season and we were impressed with what we saw. Valery will be a good addition to our defense and we have no doubt that he will make a huge contribution to the success of the Club,”
