Tinashe Nengomasha believes that Chiefs victory over Moroka Swallows on Sunday is a sign that the Amakhosi are ready for their league clash with Sundowns on Sunday.

Nengomasha who skippered Chiefs to victory over Swallows in the Soweto derby last Sunday in the absence of Shaun Bartlett, feels that the team was not affected by their loss in the Nedbank Cup and will be more than up for the challenge when they travel to Loftus on Sunday.

With Chiefs winning three league games in succession, their most capped player this season believes that getting win number four will be challenging but is not impossible, as The Amakhosi are hitting the right notes as the season draws to an end.

To the capital

Tinashe has dismissed talk that Sundowns hold a slight psychological edge over Chiefs after their Nedbank Cup triumph over The Amakhosi a fortnight ago, he explained by saying. “The Nedbank Cup game is behind us although we are disappointed to have lost the match to Sundowns it is well and truly behind us, we came back with a strong convincing win over Swallows and we showed that we have no cup hangover. Even against Sundowns in the cup match there was nothing wrong with the way we played, we took our game a level up against Swallows and we intend to take it up a further notch on Sunday”.

Two-year hoodoo

Nengomasha further more believes that Chiefs will be able to break a two-year hoodoo against the Brazilians, as they have not been able to beat Sundowns in a league match since February to 2006. On this he commented “we believe that right now we are playing the kind of football that is allowing us to easily get the strangle hold on each game that we are playing. Each department in the team is playing in cohesion and we have the belief that we can win on Sunday, it has been just over two years since we beat Sundowns in a league match and now is the time to break that run of success they have had over us”.
