New challenge for Khune

Amakhosi goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has told kaizerchiefs.com that he has packed away the euphoria and elation from this past weekend’s victory when he helped Bafana Bafana defeat Egypt in an African Nations Cup qualifying game.

The Chiefs number one explained that he is now fully focused on helping Chiefs fight for silverware in both the Absa Premiership and Nedbank Cup.

“Winning with South Africa against Egypt was just fantastic, now my energy and concentration as well as my general focus is on helping my club win all of their remaining games this season.

I am fully committed to doing so and it all starts with those two games against Wits next week.”

Chiefs next competitive encounters will see them face BIDVest Wits in back to back matches in the Nedbank and Absa Premiership on the 6th and 10th of April respectively.

According to Khune these games against Wits pose a special challenge and it will see him renew a rivalry with one of his national team colleagues.

“I spoke to the Wits keeper Darren Keet when we were with the national team last week.

He told me the next time I see you we will be lining up against each other, I am really looking forward to seeing him on the field of play.

It is a friendly rivalry between us, I do hope to keep a clean sheet against his team and win that battle for my team.”

According to Khune it won’t be a problem for Chiefs to come face to face with the Students a few days apart as they have been in that kind of a situation before. “We have known for a couple of days now that we would playing Wits in these games.

Its not a unique situation for us, if you remember we faced Pirates in the MTN8 semi finals and again in the league and thereafter in the Telkom Knock Out Final, so we have the experience to deal with this kind of situation.

The one game is a league game and the other is a Cup game so the dynamic of each one is different. Our target is to win them both remains the same.”
