“We have a full strength squad to select a competitive team from,” says coach Giovanni Solinas ahead of this afternoon’s league clash against Cape Town City. “I’m happy with the preparations, while the players that attended to their national duty returned without injuries. We also have the new signings ready to play. It’s important to get the three points.”
Mario Booysen, Lebogang Manyama and ‘Dax’ Adrianarimanana are all match-fit and are eagerly awaiting their opportunity to make their debut in the Gold and Black.
Kaizer Chiefs are in the Mother City to tackle Cape Town City in what many dub the best of this weekend’s Absa Premiership fixtures.
“We are playing against a good side,” admits Solinas. “They are a tough opponent and it’s therefore no wonder that they are in the MTN8 final.
“Besides the new signings, we also have George Maluleka returning to the squad, which is a major boost. ‘Mido’ hasn’t played in a competitive match this season, but he has been doing well at training and will be considered for this match.
Erick Mathoho, however, is ruled out due a groin injury. The lanky defender will be out of action for about three weeks according to physiotherapist Dave Milner.
Coach Solinas also looked ahead to another set of back-to-back action, having to play three matches in the upcoming eight days. “We play one game at the time,” he concludes. “Our target at the moment is City. We will think about Free State Stars after this match and thereafter about AmaZulu.”
The titanic battle between Chiefs and City will take place at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday afternoon and is scheduled to kick off at 15:00.
