Sthembiso Ngcobo followed up his heroics from the previous week in Windhoek by again scoring an injury time winner, as he helped Chiefs defeat Mamelodi Sundowns by a goal to nil in the second semifinal of the 2010 Telkom Charity Cup Torunament at Soccer City on Saturday afternoon.

With penalties looming large Ngcobo on the field as a second half substitute managed to meet Siphiwe Tshabalala’s cross and headed Chiefs to victory in the 93rd minute of a tense game against Mamelodi Sundowns to ensure that they will face their historical rivals Orlando Pirates in the final.

Sundowns attacked The Amakhosi early on as Chiefs had to defend deep in the opening quarter of the game, Lebohang Mokena managed to break free down the left in the fifth minute of the game.

Once inside the Chiefs 18 yard area he did not pick out Mphela he quickly enough and Chiefs were able to clear the danger, four minutes on and Khune had to act quickly as he closed down Mphela and beat him to a through pass.

Chiefs took time to get into their stride once they managed to do so Masango and Letsholonyane seemed to give them the upper hand as they took a strangle hold on the midfield.

Letsholonyane drew a save out of Marlin with a well hit shot from distance in the 17th minute, Masango did not manage to get power onto his effort from around 12 yards from goal twenty minutes later and again Marlin managed to make the save.

In the latter stages of the first half Chiefs were making Marlin work over time, after the Amakhosi were handed an indirect free kick on the right hand edge of the Sundowns 18 yard area. Marlin had to make another save as Yende’s effort looked goal bound before he got to to the ball and sent it out for a corner

After the restart Chiefs went on in the offensive and kept Sundowns on the back foot this sustained pressure came close to fruition for Chiefs when Masango managed to get his shot from just on the edge of the Sundowns 18 yard area on target. Again Marlin was called on to make the stop, this time he was off the ground at full stretch to punch clear the danger.

With the introduction of a second striker Sundowns looked to be more of an attacking threat up front, somehow it was Chiefs who looked more likely to find a winner and came closest to breaking the dead lock.

Nale and Musona worked around the ball around and Musona sent Nale wide to the right and he was able to return the favour be sending the ball back to him, Musona missed the target by inches as his close range effort went just wide of Marlin’s goal. This action took place in the 72nd minute.

Chiefs pretty much held sway in the second half but Sundowns managed to pick up the tempo towards the closing stages of the half, first up Pattison managed to play the perfect ball along the ground from the right to Cale.

He did not control his shot and blasted the ball wide of goal with ten minutes of regulation time left, four minutes after that Cale unleashed a powerful shot with his right foot some 24 yards from goal. Khune though met the shot with an equally impressive save as he rose up off the ground and turned the ball with one hand out for a corner.

In referee’s optional time Chiefs won the game, Musona’s initial shot from the left was blocked by Marlin Tshabalala was able to recover the loose ball and sent it over into the danger zone where substitute Ngcobo was able to head the ball past Marlin and send Chiefs through to the final where they will meet old foes Orlando Pirates.
