Kaizer Chiefs 2 (Dladla 20, Ngcobo 93)

Lanky striker, Sthembiso Ngcobo announced his arrival at the Club with a superb header deep in the stoppage time to give the Glamour Boys a 2-1 win over Eleven Arrows in an intertaining Namibian Football International match played in front of enthusiastic crowd at Sam Nujoma Stadium just outside Windhoek.

The Amakhosi playing their first competitive match since reporting from the pre-season in the last three weeks grabbed an early lead through Josta Dladla tap in, but allowed the hosts to bounce back through Romanus Shilongo goal. The day however belonged to Amakhosi as they took the Cup to Naturena.

The match was played in front of dignitaries that included Minister of Land and Resettlement Alpheus Nauruseb, Owner of Eleven Arrows and businessman JJ Doeseb, Mpumzi Pupuma Managing Director Standard Bank (Namibia), Chairman of Hollard (SADC)Johan Barnard, Managing Director Kaizer Chiefs Bheki Shongwe including Marketing Director, Jessica Motaung.

Vermezovic handed the captain’s armband to goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune with regular captain Jimmy Tau starting from the bench. The young goalkeeper had not much to do though thanks to some solid defending from Thomas Sweswe and Dominic Isaacs.

As expected the Glamour Boys dominated the game from the first whistle with Abia Nale and Knowledge Musona making life difficult for the hosts' defenders that included former Swallows defender, George Hummel.

Reneilwe Letsholonyane pulling strings in the midfield was the first to test Virgel Vries with a fierce shot but the goalkeeper reacted well parrying the ball on the path of Musona whose shot went just over the bar.

It was not long before the Glamour Boys opened scoring through an easy tap in from Dladla following a superb cross from Punch Masenamela, 1-0 to Chiefs.

Then Arrows who were chasing shadows conceded a free kick just outside the 18-area box. An alert Vries did well to save his side’s blushes pulling a superb save, 1-all at halftime.

In the second stanza Vermezovic changed the whole team but Arrows pulled a goal back with striker Shilongo beating Arthur Bartman from close range in the 55th minute.

There was no stopping the Glamour Boys though as in the 93rd minute Ngcobo rose the highest to head in Kaizer Motaung junior superb cross on the right. The striker had earlier watched his header coming off the post from Siyabulela Songwiqi’s cross.

It was a good win for Chiefs and Vermezovic would be pleased with the way his players responded to the challenge.

On other activities that took place earlier on the day, Zambezi United lost 3-2 to Rundi Chiefs. It was a day of festivities as the fans were treated with performances from the likes of local groups, Street Kids and Black Sheep.
