Chiefs awoke on Friday morning with the news that their two closest rivals in the championship race Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates had dropped points in league games.

Sundowns played to a 1-all draw against Santos while Pirates played to a goalless draw against Cosmos on Thursday.

With both teams out of action this weekend as they will be busy with African Champions league business, Chiefs are presented with the opportunity to once again take top spot in the PSL should they beat Bloemfontein Celtic on Saturday evening.

Amakhosi midfield playmaker and dribbling wizard Arthur Zwane is adamant that the club can walk away with a third straight PSL title as long as Chiefs take advantage of their rivals misfortunes. “We cannot draw with lesser teams and hope for Pirates and Sundowns to drop points. We hold the destiny of the title in our own hands” says Zwane. He continues further “Pirates and Sundowns are also busy with the African Champions league, which means that they have extra games and we can take advantage of the fact that they could be tired when April and May comes around”.

The tough as teak midfielder, who was a Chief catalyst when The Amakhosi successfully retained their title last season, says that this Saturday’s game against Celtic provides the perfect opportunity to launch a serious assault on the title. Despite the fact that Celtic have recently beaten Sundowns Zwane says this should not be a factor in tomorrow night's encounter. “Beating Sundowns at the Seisa Ramabadou Stadium and playing Chiefs at the FNB Stadium is a different ball game. We are at a stage where we cannot afford to slip up and drop points and with what Celtic did last weekend and our previous results against them this season really does not count for much”.

Zwane is also aware of the danger posed by Elias Ngwepe who has scored three goals in his teams last two games and the ever dangerous and deadly Siyabonga Nkosi, but is relishing the opportunity of coming up against the in form pair. “All my life I have enjoyed playing against guys who are on top of their game and Ngwepe has been having fun in recent games and it will be interesting to deal with him, I have always maintained that Nkosi is the heartbeat of Celtic and we will have to ensure that it won’t be pumping on Saturday”.

With Sundowns and Pirates doing battle in African cup competitions this weekend, victory against Celtic will propel Chiefs to the top of the table. Kick off for this potentially explosive PSL encounter is at 20h10 at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday. Tickets are R20.00 and are available at Computicket nationwide as well as Shoprite – Checkers stores and The Amakhosi Store in Johannesburg city centre.
