Kaizer Chiefs will not renew the contracts of three of its players; Kenny Niemach, Phumlani Mkhize and Patrick Mbuthu. The players’ contracts expired at the end of the season.

The trio held talks with Team Manager, Bobby Motaung on Tuesday, 27th May 2003. Niemach and Mkhize were given their clearances immediately while Motaung awaits Mbuthu to come finalize some paperwork and collect his clearance.

"I take this opportunity to wish these players all the best in their football careers. In their own respect they are good players and we are confident they will make an impact wherever they go. We have enjoyed some good times with them and also suffered regrettable moments together but such is life, " said club spokesperson, Putco Mafani.

Mbuthu is the longest serving of the trio, since his heydays with the South African U-23 where he played under then coach Shakes Mashaba.

He has had a turbulent career at Chiefs, characterised by AWOL cases together with Jabu Pule who is now undergoing trials in Greece. Mbuthu's stay at Chiefs was plagued with lots of disciplinary problems, a thing that has adversely affected his performance and reliability at the club.
