While there has been a distinct lack of South African’s blowing their vuvuzela’s around Germany there have been many Chiefs fans loitering around the various host cities. Not just Amakhosi fans from Jozi, Durb’s or inside Mzansi’s borders have been parading the famous black and gold as Duke Mathebula found out prior to last weeks game between Italy and Ghana.
As he explains “further I was wearing my MAKARAPA walking around Hanover, Germany on the day of the match between Ghana and Italy. I came across two German guys who were wearing Kaizer Chiefs shirts. Obviously we connected because I was wearing the MAKARABA and they were wearing the shirts. They said they bought them online at www.kaizerchiefs.com”.
Recently Chiefs technical sponsors Nike came out with a special lifestyle range of products, which have been sold in Nike concept stores and other sports shops around the world. The range has proved a big hit in two countries in particular one being China and the other Germany who are currently hosting the FIFA World Cup.
The special range which reflects the passion of that Chiefs supporters have for their team has found global appeal and Nike used the likes of Juventus Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Manchester United’s Pak Jo Sung to promote the range.
While South Africa are missing from this years FIFA World Cup they will host the tournament in four years time, in the mean time the Amakhosi will continue flying the flag in Germany. The last word goes to once again to Duke Mathebula who added “as a Chiefs supporter for life, I could not have been happier to find passionate Chiefs supporters like myself so far away, the theme for the World Cup is a time to make friends and I definitely have”.
