As Chiefs spoiled the party in 2000, the Amakhosi’s big match man David Obua is aiming to repeat the feat when he comes face to face with Sundowns on Saturday afternoon. Obua has demonstrated his ability to rise to the big occasion by having scored on each occasion that he has come up against Pirates or Sundowns this season.
Having once before ended Sundowns double ambitions David Obua is confident Chiefs can leap over Sundowns into the final of the ABSA Cup, Obua said “ I am ready for anything Sundowns throw at me, we have the motivation and belief that we can win this competition”.
Obua who scored a second half penalty in the ¼ Finals against Black Leopards, which saw Chiefs make their way into the ½ Finals David is now looking to spoil Sundowns party. He added “I am gonna be a party pooper on Saturday and how? Beating the league champions will be wonderful right now. Our objective is to reach the final. There is no talk at the moment of exiting the tournament on Saturday, come May 20 we will still be in the ABSA Cup, Sundowns are quality team and they have my respect but that does not mean I am scared of them”. Obua is of the opinion that playing against Sundowns will help the team raise their game “we showed it before in this tournament that when the chips are down like they were against SuperSport - we rise to the occasion and get the result we are after”.
With Sundowns currently the PSL Champions elect they will be favourites for Saturday’s game as David explains being the underdog has its advantage. Obua says “going into this game with the odds stacked against us is actually good for the team because there is no added pressure on us - we can go out there and play our normal game. All the pressure is on Sundowns. We going to enjoy ourselves and ensure that our supporters leave the game happy with the knowledge that they have three weeks to save up for the ABSA Cup FINAL”.
