Amakhosi goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune will undertake his second trip to Sierra Leone when he travels with Bafana Bafana to take on the ‘Leone Stars’ in Free Town later this week in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game.

Having been to the West African nation previously will stand Khune in good stead for what is expected to be a tough game against Sierra Leone, “because I have been to Sierra Leone previously and I know what type of conditions to expect there I am not particularly worried about having to go there and play.”

The Chiefs shot stopper featured for Bafana in 2008 when they were defeated by Sierra Leone in a 2010 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifying game, and he believes that experience will stand him in good stead this time around.

“Not just me there are a number of guys in the Bafana who have already been there so it will help us” Khune told kaizerchiefs.com, Khune has been sharing his past experience with his Chiefs teammates who have also been selected to go with Bafana to Sierra Leone

“I have been discussing the trip and what to expect when we there with Siphiwe, Reneilwe and Sthembiso so mentally we are all in the right frame of mind before we go there, more importantly than worrying about the physical conditions we should be focused on winning the game.”

Sierra Leone pulled off an unlikely draw against Egypt in their opening game and on the back of that result Khune believe’s they will be brimming with confidence.

“Freetown is a difficult place to go and get a positive result and more so now because they drew with Egypt. We have to play well and win the crowd over that will help us work our way towards a win.”

Bafana will be based in Johannesburg all week long in the build up to the game and will depart for Sierra Leone on Friday for Sunday’s clash.
