No looking back - Sweswe

Amakhosi defender Thomas Sweswe who was named as man the man of the match during Chiefs derby win over Pirates this past weekend, insists that despite Chiefs enjoying one of their best starts to a PSL season winning four of their opening five games they will not be resting on their laurels and will continue working to ensure they maintain their No 1 placing on the standings.

Speaking of his plan to keep the Amakhosi on top Sweswe said, “there can be no looking back for us. We are grateful that we have managed to work our way into a strong position on the standings, and we need to stay as the pace setters and the way to do that is to continue playing and performing with the kind of intensity that we have been.”

Sweswe has confidence in his teammates and their ability in the coming games against Bloemfontein Celtic and Golden Arrows and beyond to continue grinding out positive results.

“We have a team with a lot of depth and when you playing games one after the other, it helps to have a strong team which bodes well for us.

We aware that when you on top of the league everyone wants to knock you off the perch, when teams face Chiefs regardless of their standings on the table every team gives their all to defeating us.”

According to the tough defender at the current time Chiefs can expect no favours, “given our current standing we do know that there will be extra incentive for other teams to want to do well when they come up against us, we will take it game by game and be ready to tackle each challenge.”

On a personal note Sweswe who has been a virtual regular at the centre of defence over the past three seasons, and having missed out on featuring earlier in the month as he overcame a bout of flu Sweswe is hoping to improve on his current form.

“It is always nice to play especially when you winning games, I did miss a couple of games and I am pleased to have regained my fitness and featured in the last couple of games.

Doing well this past weekend against Pirates was important for me because I needed to get myself back up after the MTN8 Final loss and the defeat to Ajax, hopefully as a team we can build on our good start to the league and take it from there. I always aim to improve my form.”
