McCarthy is confident that The Amakhosi will be able to defeat the Brazilians on Saturday if they keep cool in what could be a trying ninety minutes for them, in addition he has also said that there does not need to be any talk of revenge ahead of the game.
Talking on Wednesday, McCarthy is happy that they get a go at the Champions on Saturday - it will afford Chiefs the opportunity to begin the new season with a clean slate “whatever happened between us and them last season is history, they won the league title we beat them in the ABSA Cup, they defeated us 3-1 we beat them 1-0. That is all history,” said McCarthy.
He continued on by adding “on Saturday we have the opportunity to begin a clean slate, we can put the history of last season and its disappointments behind us and look forward to starting off the new season with a win over Sundowns”.
McCarthy, who once campaigned for the Brazilians, believes that if Chiefs play the way they have been in pre season, by working together as a team and concentrating on their own strengths Chiefs should overcome The Brazilians. McCarthy added “When we take to the field on Saturday we know what we need to do.
Before we get into the field as a team we not talking of revenge and all of that, when you begin to place your focus away from the game than you lose sight of what you meant to do.
All we want is put one over Sundowns, the primary objective for us is to use the game to help us improve as we have been using our other pre season matches”.
McCarthy was appointed as captain once again to stand in for Cyril Nzama who was given time off to rest when The Amakhosi took on the national under twenty team in a friendly game at the FNB Stadium late on Wednesday afternoon.
McCarthy has once again made strong claims to be included in the starting eleven on Saturday, with a fluent performance against Amajita. Fabian will be hoping for another successful return to the FNB Stadium on Saturday when he comes to face with Sundowns.
Tickets for the Telkom Charity Spectacular are currently on sale at a cost of R 35 and are available from Computicket as well as Checkers & Shoprite Stores.
Chiefs will play Sundowns in the second game on Saturday morning, the match is scheduled to start at 11h30, it will be played after the first semi final between Bloemfontein Celtic and Orlando Pirates which kick’s off at 09h30.
