Kaizer Chiefs striker George Lebese might have found the back of the net for the Amakhosi in their pre-season Vodacom Challenge victory against Tottenham Hotspur, but the young striker is not getting carried away and is keeping his sights firmly focused on the season ahead.

Speaking to kaizerchiefs.com Lebese said, “I am not going to think much of the goal against Spurs. II got the opportunity to play and a chance came my way and I converted it. Yes the goal has helped my motivation. I believe that there is a lot of work for me still to do before the season starts. Getting the goal is a good start.”

Lebese, who suffered an injury two seasons back and has had his game time limited as a result, is looking ahead to the new season as being one where in he is able to compete for regular game time.

As he further said, “I have not been playing a lot. The injury was one of the main reasons. Even when I was not playing I was gaining experience talking to the older guys in the team and observing what was going on.

"Now is the time for me to get myself into the team. It will only happen with hard work and application. I have the hunger and desire to do well for the team. By giving my all I do believe my chances will come.”

Lebese is also under no illusion that getting regular game time will be easy this coming season given the strength of the Amakhosi squad. “We have a really good team with a number of players competing in different positions.

It shows that we have a really competitive team and that is good for us. As an individual it is going to take that extra special amount of effort from me to get to play regularly.”

In concluding his discussion with kaizerchiefs.com Lebese is hopeful that 2011/2012 will be a season to remember. “I do not see this goal against Spurs as the beginning of the end but rather the start of what can be a happy and successful year ahead for the team and me as well.”
