Not a performance to be proud of
Not a performance to be proud of

I will begin this address today by stating that I am left disappointed by the performance of my team during Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Moroka Swallows in Germiston.

I do believe that this was perhaps Chiefs poorest showing in the league this entire season so far, it was not the kind of performance that I expected from the guys and it certainly was not fun to watch. I felt that after starting off strongly we dissipated and did not produce the same kind of fluent, flowing, passing football that we did a few weeks ago against Bloemfontein Celtic.

There was no consistency to our game and we did not put up a fight the way we did against Celtic, I will not begin to pinpoint individuals but I will say that overall from back to front we did not play well against Swallows. What we did was lose our way particularly in the last third of the game and thus allowed the opposition into the game and they were able to dictate terms to us. What I do promise is that we, as a team, will ensure that as long as Kosta Papic is associated with Chiefs, we will play better football then we did against Swallows on Sunday and there will not be repeat of what happened in Germiston.

I have made it clear to the players from day one and I have re-enforced it again that I want total commitment and they should dedicate all their energies to ensuring the success of the team. I felt that Sunday’s performance lacked commitment and was also devoid of the spark that saw us run riot against Celtic. Furthermore I have made it clear to the first choice players that should certain players not improve their performances – Kaizer Chiefs do have a deep reservoir of reserve team players to call on. The so called second stringers have been doing well in the reserves, and there are a number of players who are knocking very hard on being called up to the first team.

We have the rest of the week to work towards ensuring that when we run out against Black Leopards on Sunday we are more focused and put on a much better overall performance. Black Leopards might be at the wrong end of the table but that is no license for us to take them for granted. Our aim in to win every game until the end of the season. We know that April is a tough month with a total of four games.

With the Swallows game out of the way we have three more very tough assignments against Leopards, Santos and Pirates and there will be no more slouching around and every man is aware that a better performance and result against Leopards is a must.

When we do not play up to the standard that we are meant to - it really upsets me, I do feel that it is important not to let one bad performance make us lose focus on winning the maximum number of games remaining. What we will do though is extract those things from the Swallows game, which allowed for us not to play the way we had hoped to and instead, improve on them which will hopefully result in us coming away from the game against Leopards three points richer.
