Serge Djiehoua’s miraculous recovery from an injury that threatened to rule him out of action for the rest of the season was complete when he turned out for Chiefs as a second half substitute against City Pillars in the ABSA Cup.

The strong Ivorian got straight into the action and had a hand in Chiefs injury time equalizer at the end of regulation time, as he set up Louis Agyemang who scored to send the game into extra time.

In extra time - Djiehoua was once again in the thick of battle as he assisted Agyemang in completing his brace to level matters at four all. Djiehoua clearly made an impact in his first game back since picking up what seemed like a career threatening injury in September last year against Jomo Cosmos. His night did not end without drama. Early in extra time Pillars captain went in for a challenge from behind against Djiehoua and came off second best and was taken from the field in an ambulance to hospital for treatment on what looked like a dislocated shoulder.

Serge was also the unlucky recipient of a 97th minute yellow card against Pillars and will now have to sit out Chiefs game against Classic this weekend as he serves a one match ban for picking up his third yellow card of the season. The Chiefs striker went into the referee’s book earlier in the season against Golden Arrows and Jomo Cosmos; he was on the score sheet in both games.

“I am disappointed that I will miss Sunday’s game, my momentum was beginning to build and I was looking forward to playing a league game again. Anyway, the important thing is that I am back to full fitness and out on the field” said Serge.

Chiefs will travel to Durban minus Serge but the Ivorian should be available for selection when Chiefs host Bush Bucks on the 8th April at the FNB Stadium.
