“Thank you so much. I feel so privileged to be part of Chiefs,” says Ugandan winger Sula Matovu after making his debut for Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday.
The 23-year-old is one of the Club’s new signings. He came on against Bloemfontein Celtic in the 83rd minute as a substitute for George Lebese.
Signed from Swedish outfit BK Häcken, Matovu expresses delight at the dawn of a new era in his career: “It was a pleasure to be named in the travelling squad. I just told myself to focus and to look forward to the match. I want to work for the team to succeed.”
Matovu played for seven minutes plus added time: “It was a good feeling when the coach asked me to come on. It’s not the end, but the beginning of hard work.”
The fast and powerful winger, nicknamed ‘Malouda’, stresses that “I wanted to score a goal, but that didn’t come to reality.”
Matovu had a few nice touches on the ball, clearly with the intent to carry the ball forward, as Chiefs were surging for a late winner in the one-all draw of the first leg of this MTN8 semifinal encounter.
“The result was not what we had planned for,” admits Matovu. “As an individual I have a winning character. However, we will take the result, as we will play the second leg at home.”
Matovu has one promise to the Amakhosi supporters: “I want to contribute to the Club’s success.”
