Not a true reflection – Middendorp

“We started well,” reflected coach Ernst Middendorp after his side collected a point away against Polokwane City. “We created many possibilities to score. It’s a pity we gave the lead away with a soft goal.”

The game ended in a 1-all draw with City equalizing shortly after Daniel Cardoso scored a penalty to give Kaizer Chiefs a deserved lead.

“In the second half we had possibilities to score,” rued the Amakhosi coach. “The scoreline is not a true reflection of the match. We could have done better and collected the three points.”

Watched by a vocal crowd at a half-full New Peter Mokaba Stadium, the Glamour Boys threw everything into the encounter, but Lady Luck was not on their side.

“We take it one game at a time,” added the Chiefs coach. “We haven’t had a completely fit squad for quite some time, but a number of players are coming back from injuries.

About the absence of Lorenzo Gordinho, Middendorp comments: “Lorenzo last played a full match for Bloemfontein Celtic in December. He came to us, but then broke his arm. He isworking hard to return to full match fitness.”

The coach also pointed out that he doesn’t have the luxury of keeping the same line-up due tothese injuries. “Look at Happy Mashiane. He has been starting and gave us something extra in our approach. Now he is out for four weeks, not because of his form but simply because he got kicked and got injured.”

Amakhosi will turn their attention next weekend to the home-away-from-home fixture against Highlands Park. The match will take place at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, 2 March.
