“It’s a crucial game,” Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya says about Sunday’s Nedbank Cup quarterfinal fixture against Cape Town City. “We want to progress to the next stage.”
Kaizer Chiefs will host the Capetonians at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday, 31 March (kick-off is at 15:00).
The Citizens won the MTN8 competition earlier this season. Chiefs and City have already faced each other twice in the league. Amakhosi won in Cape Town 4-1 in September 2018, while City won their away game, 1-0.
“We are the better side,” Ntiya-Ntiya comments full of confidence. “We totally dominated them in our last match, despite losing 1-0. That’s not going to happen again. We just have to play our normal game and take our chances.”
The 22-year-old won the MultiChoice Diski Shield competition last season with Chiefs’ Reserve side.
“I want to feel that joy inside of winning a major trophy with the first team,” Ntiya-Ntiya explains his eagerness to get a trophy with Amakhosi’s senior side.
The young talent has done well this season, either playing at left-back, right-back or even on the left-wing.
He prefers the left-back position, although Ntiya-Ntiya points out that coach Ernst Middendorp is the boss. “He’s the one leading us and if he decides that I have to play at a certain position, I will do that to the best of my capabilities.”
About staying grounded despite all the attention that comes with playing for the Glamour Boys, he says: “It’s important to stay humble and focused. It’s dangerous to be all over the place.
“That’s also why, if we don’t train in the afternoon, I will do a gym session for myself. I want to work hard on becoming a better player every day.”
Tickets are sold at TicketPro (JET, CNA, Edgars and Spar supermarket) at a cost of R40.
