Nurković pleased to score ‘important’ goal for Chiefs

Amakhosi striker Samir Nurkovic became the first Serbian player to score a goal for Kaizer Chiefs in an official game when he opened the scoring in Chiefs 1-1 draw in an Absa Premiership match on Saturday evening against SuperSport United.

The Serbian striker is happy to have opened his goalscoring account for Amakhosi as a content Nurković explained, “ it was very important for me to have scored against SuperSport. Every striker who comes to a new team knows the value and importance of scoring their first goal, and you need to get it as soon as possible to be ready for the next games. I am happy to have gotten my first goal and I now look at what is ahead of us.”

Nurkovic’s goal against SuperSport saw him score with a sublime lob which left the opposition defence watching on as he talked kaizerchiefs.com through the goal, “when with ball in box I tried to see if any of my teammates were in a better position to score.

I did not see any other solution and I just looked to see where the goalkeeper was and I just tried to lob the goalkeeper and everything worked out. I also thought that if the ball goes past the goalkeeper someone might be lurking behind him who could have touched the ball over the line, in the end I was happy with the outcome. It is always nice to score.”

He is well pleased that his goal resembled that of the legendary former striker Didier Drogba, who scored a similar goal from a tight angle once in the Premier League.

Nurković is now looking forward to Tuesday evenings Absa Premiership encounter against Cape Town City. “Our focus now is very much on Tuesday and our next game against Cape Town City, we respect every opponent we have our way which is the way of winning we don’t want to stop here,” he says.

The Amakhosi striker also heaped praise on the Chiefs fans saying: “we have amazing fans everyone wants to celebrate with us, and our fans very are very good. The club and everything is of the highest level. Without the fans it would not be possible for us to be successful and they have been very good for me and the team”

Nurković concluded by adding that he is taking well to life in South Africa away from the field as well on it, of finding his feet in the country he explained, “I’ve settled very well. Everything is good. Apart from the football, the food amazing, the people are very good and kind, my teammates have helped me settle and adapt. On the football side the coach is doing a good job and we as a team are developing well as a unit”.
