Despite Kaizer Chiefs’ indifferent form last season, skipper Cyril Nzama has vowed to hoist his team’s flag high when Bafana Bafana takes on Chad in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in the coastal city of Durban on Saturday.

Perched on top of Group 11 on seven points after three matches and buoyed by their 3-0 scintillating display away from home, Nzama, who has made the right back spot his own, said they stand a chance of consolidating their spot.

With English-based Benedict McCarthy likely to miss this important clash as he continues his national call-up exile, Nzama is optimistic.

“This is a national duty and we are not going to allow distractions to stand in our way. We are gunning for all the three points and nothing else. The guys know what is at stake and despite having beaten Chad at their own backyard, I don’t think we will be complacent,” Nzama said.

Due to a hamstring injury sustained in the ABSA Cup against Ajax Cape Town, Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Godfrey Sapula has been replaced by Golden Arrows’ Papi Zothwane and Teko Modise of SuperSport United.

With Chiefs having failed reached its zenith promised last season, Nzama remains upbeat about next season.

“We didn’t do well but that is football. We will enter the next season in an imperious mood and I am sure we will claw our back to the top.”
