Chiefs player of the year from 2005 – 2006 was unfortunate not to have won the game for The Amakhosi when his stunning long-range effort crashed on the under side of the Pirates cross bar. Although some pundits have said that the ball did look as though it had crossed the line, the match official decided otherwise and Obua missed out on what could have been his third goal against Pirates in four league outings against the Buccaneers since joining Chiefs in 2004 - 2005.

With two games of the current season to go, Obua is aiming at helping Chiefs win six out of the six points on offer, and if he is able to achieve this objective, he would ensure that The Amakhosi qualify for next seasons SAA Supa8 competition.

KC.COM caught up with the Ugandan international captain and got his views on Chiefs run in to the season.

KC.COM: David you had a cracking game against Pirates a few weeks ago, are you looking to continue with that kind of form against Maritzburg this weekend?




DO: Well some people do say that I live for matches against Pirates, seriously I felt better about the way I played in that game. I thought that I contributed in a more meaningful way to the game and given the fact that we had a number of injuries and suspensions, that we played really well and gave the opposition a real fight and fright.
Many people thought that because we would have to make so many changes that things would be tough for us against Pirates. All credit to the guys for fighting all the way and to Serge for converting a difficult opportunity and scoring a great goal.

KC.COM: You too were unfortunate as you had a well-timed shot hit the under side of the bar, some pundits have said that it looked like a goal?




Do: Football is such a game that on certain occasions things will go your way and sometimes decisions won’t be what you want, the referee has to think quickly and he made a decision not to give the goal and I have to live with that.
The thing is that I did not have time to think before taking my shot, I quickly looked up and saw the Pirates goalkeeper off his line and I chanced my luck. Fortunately the shot beat him, but luckily for him, and unluckily for me, the crossbar got in the way and prevented me from scoring - obviously I would have loved to have scored against Pirates but it was not to be.

KC.COM: This Sunday Chiefs are up against Maritzburg United who are already relegated, do you think that Chiefs could repeat the 6-1 score line from when the teams met earlier in the season?




DO: Should we want to score six or even more goals on Sunday then the first thing we need to do is to forget about the fact that Maritzburg United have been relegated. We need to go in there with the correct frame of mind and get the job done. Scoring a similar kind of victory is most definitely our objective as we want the three points, and we have been working hard at trying to achieve the same score line.
We do believe that it is possible for us to win the game with a huge margin of victory. Believe me this self-belief has nothing to do with the fact that Maritzburg are relegated, it has more to do with our desire to end the season off victoriously.

KC.COM: With two games to go, are you confident that Chiefs can still find space to finish inside the top eight spots in the league?




DO: I look at it this way, the ball is really in our half of the field - we find ourselves in a situation that we really and truly should not have been in. Now that we are fighting for a top eight finish we have to approach our remaining games in the following manner: Sunday’s game against Maritzburg United can be described as a cup semifinal and the following weekend’s game against Silver Stars is the cup final. These are basically like qualification matches as we are looking to qualify for the top eight and if we slip up, we don’t get to fight to retain our title. It is unacceptable and unthinkable for us not to be in next seasons’ SAA Supa8 competition.
