“Polokwane City are a tough opponent,” says Kaizer Chiefs winger George Lebese about the next Absa Premiership match at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday, 22 April (kick-off at 19:30).

Thanks to beating University of Pretoria on Tuesday, Amakhosi moved to 60 points from 26 games.

“Games against Tuks are never easy,” reflects Lebese on the 1-0 win. “We didn’t want to lose that match. We wanted to win it at all cost, which happened thanks to Siphiwe Tshabalala’s goal from a free-kick. We celebrated as a TEAM, with all the players being involved, which was great. It was a reflection on the spirit in the team.”

The 26-year-old also talks excitedly about the Chiefs supporters, who were present in great numbers at Pretoria’s Tuks Stadium, being very vocal.

“It was fabulous to have our supporters in full force behind us,” Lebese reacts. “The negativity of earlier this season has disappeared. It’s great to see that when it comes to crunch time - towards the end of the season - that our supporters rally so vocally supporting the team. It gives us extra energy!”

Title contenders Mamelodi Sundowns lost 5-0 at home against Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday night. As a result of this, the Brazilians’ maximum total of points they can reach is 62 - if they win their five remaining league clashes.

This means that Chiefs will win the Absa Premiership title if they gain three points from their remaining four fixtures.

The first round game against Polokwane City, away at Polokwane’s Peter Mokaba Stadium, finished in a goalless draw.

“We would love to get to 63 points as soon as possible,” comments Lebese. “As a team, we want to win the league for our fantastic supporters and the Club. However, Polokwane City are a good team, especially in the middle of the park. Luckily, we play at the FNB Stadium, as it has a bigger field, which suits our style of play. We won’t underestimate Polokwane.”

“Tickets are sold at the Computicket for R40 for adults and R10 for children under the age of 12.”
