In January his career took a nosedive as he was discarded from Carlos Queiroz’s squad from the African Nations Cup, and the likelihood of capturing a lucrative deal overseas was fading.
But under Jomo Sono he was recalled to the Bafana squad for the World Cup campaign. He was a surprise starter in South Africa’s first game against Paraguay but took his chance and ended the campaign as one of the team’s best performers.
His resolute defending and attacking wingback forays was not lost on the huge contingent of agents from Europe and Nzama now finds his name on the shopping lists of some of the world’s top teams.
