Striker, Bernard Parker expressed his delight after being rewarded with a call-up to the national team almost after an eleven month absence.

Currently the PSL’s leading goal scorer with four goals, Parker has been called up together with his four teammates, goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, towering defender Eric Mathoho and midfielders Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Siphiwe Tshabalala. They will play alongside each other when they take on Brazil in Sao Paulo on the 7th and also against Mozambique at Mbombela Stadium on the 12th September 2012.

“I am happy to be back in the national team. The last time I was in the team was when we played Sierra Leone at Mbombela. It is an honour to represent your country and having been here before I know the feeling.”

“I see my return to the national team as a second chance and it is the opportunity I am going to grab by both hands. I have been working hard since I was dropped and I never gave up on representing my country.”

Bernard Parker was in the Bafana Bafana team that lost against Brazil during 2009 Confederations Cup through an 88th minute free kick from Dani Alves and is looking forward to come up against defender, Thiago Silva and company.

“We did well against Brazil the last time we faced them at Ellis Park and they needed a late goal to win the game. We are all looking forward to the game against world class players. We are going there to fight for the pride of the nation so we are not going to make things easy for them,” said the player speaking to kaizerchiefs.com just before boarding on a flight to Sao Paulo.

Affectionately known as ‘Benito’ in football circles Parker revealed the spirit in the camp is high; “The Coach (Gordon Igesund) had a meeting with us on Sunday to outline his objectives for the camp and the environment has been relaxed. He also likes joking around so players have been at ease,” added Parker.

Kickoff for the game against Brazil is at 15:45.
