KICK-OFF, 20:15

The Amakhosi marksman spoke to the Club’s official website ahead of Saturday night’s encounter against Maritzburg United.
PARKER ON FREE STATE STARS GAME
“It was a good match that had a lot of energy from our side. It showed that we mean business in the second round of the season. I would also like to commend my teammates with their strong mentality and support for one another, which made us come out with a positive result against a good Free State Stars team. However, I still feel there could’ve been more goals, while we conceded in a way that we were all disappointed with. It is something that we should make sure can’t happen again if we want to be competitive in this league.
“All in all it was a good game to see where we are in terms of readiness for the gruelling second half of the season and also where we can improve, especially with everyone fighting for maximum points now.”
PARKER ON MARITZBURG UNITED
“Maritzburg United have been a tough one over the years since I have been at Kaizer Chiefs and we always find it difficult against them. This time around though, we are well aware of what is expected from us and it will be more about our mental willingness to get us through.
“We are looking solid at the moment and if we go there with a clear mind-set, everything will go well for us. Definitely, we will be going there for the three points.”
PARKER ON GUSTAVO PÁEZ
“Good introduction for himself on Tuesday night. He would’ve topped it off well if he had scored a goal on debut. Gustavo is a player that has adapted so well to our style of play and the understanding will only grow with more games under his belt. When I spoke to ‘Shabba’ (Siphiwe Tshabalala), we discussed growing the frontline into a powerhouse with a better understanding and connection.
“For Gustavo, the longer he will be with us, he will get to that level where we want it to be. He reminds me of some of the players, who have been in here in the past that I played with that make good runs, like Majoro, Mphela, Nkhatha and Musona. I had some good times with those guys and I hope to have that same success with him too.”
PARKER ON SCORING GOALS AGAIN
“Self-belief has been key and also always reviewing myself. There was a reason why I was on the bench and why I was injured. When I was fighting to get myself back on the team I made sure that every time I left training that I gave a good account of myself on the field and that mentality and positive attitude made it easy for me when I eventually got my opportunity to play and things went my way. Now it’s all about trying my best to maintain that level of sharpness and work even harder to preserve my place in the team.”
PARKER ON LEAGUE CHANCES
“Our chances are great. I think it’s us alone… We don’t have to worry about what other teams are doing. We need to focus on ourselves and take it game by game. The fact that we still need to play each other (top four teams) is actually a good thing, the league is still very much within our reach and it’s for us to go grab it by staying together and to fight for one another.”
