The Team wrapped up their preseason camp in the Windy City, Port Elizabeth this morning. The Team arrived here on the 11th of July 2014 and held a series of camp activities which culminated in a friendly match against Chippa United on Sunday. They won the match 4 – 2 in front of a near capacity crowd at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. The Glamour Boys found the net via Kingston Nkhatha, Siphiwe Tshabalala, Tefu Mashamaite and a last minute scorcher from George Maluleka, sending the enthusiastic crowd into raptures.

Coach Baxter was cautiously elated by the results. After the match, Baxter said, “It was a good practice match. It showed that if we played our football we can cause a lot of damage to the opponents. At times we held back and never played well, but that is allowed in the preparations, it will give us some information to work on. We are happy about the camp overall and look forward to the next step of our preparations when we tackle Pirates (Orlando Pirates) over the weekend.”

Siphiwe Tshabalala was stretchered off the pitch with a knee injury that will be assessed by the Medical Team this afternoon.

The players had this to say about the camp in PE:

George Maluleka said, “The camp was nice. We also engaged in the 67 minutes of the Mandela Day here. The 67 minutes for Madiba is a good initiative. We dedicated 67 minutes of our time working with our main sponsor Vodacom packing food parcels as part of Vodacom’s Food Security Programme to distribute to more than 50000 families.”

Maluleka’s sentiments were echoed by Willard Katsande, the reigning Kaizer Chiefs Footballer of the Season. He said, “The ‘67 minutes for Madiba was a good experience for me and my teammates. Madiba has contributed immensely to bring peace throughout the world. The Madiba activity added to the spirit of the camp, the unity and the team work came out of the 67 minutes of packing the food parcels.”

Katlego Mphela and Siboniso Gaxa expressed joy at the way the camp penned out:

Mphela said, “PE was good for the preparation. It offered the much needed calm and tranquillity you need for a preparation. We are all happy with the way the camp went and look forward to produce the results when the league kicks off in a week’s time.”

Gaxa said, “The facilities were good. We were here to work and that’s what we have been doing during the last ten days. The peace of the Windy City came handy in the preparation. The people welcomed us with warm gestures, at the hotel; at the training grounds and every place we touched we were met by happiness. It was nice to be here.”

The Glamour Boys will be heading home this afternoon to prepare for the upcoming Carling Black Label Cup against their arch-rivals Orlando Pirate taking place on Saturday.
