Kaizer Chiefs 0
Orlando Pirates (1) (Kanono 17)
A solitary goal from Thembile Kanono was enough to shrug off the Challenge from Kaizer Chiefs as Orlando Pirates lifted the Telkom Charity Cup for the first time.
Chiefs who had played the second game of the day looked a bit sluggish at the beginning and Orlando Pirates took full advantage of that when new signee, Thembile Kanono received a pass alone in the box and beat goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune from close range.
Jose Torrealba who was frightful for Orlando Pirates defenders the whole game came close with a volley outside 18 area that came off the post. Minutes later, the Amakhosi were denied what looked like a clear penalty when Mandla Masango was brought down by Benson Mhlongo inside the 18 area but referee, Jonas Nhlapho waved a play on.
Arthur Zwane had picked the youngster with a long superb pass and he outran Mhlongo who came from behind bringing him down. Kaizer Chiefs desparate for an equaliser came closer immediately after that while Moeneeb Joseph’s denied midfielder, Tinashe Nengomasha from a close range.
The Glamour Boys came very strongly in the second stanza but found it hard to break the Orlando Pirates defence. The did in the closing stages of the game, when from a Siphiwe Tshabalala corner kick Jose Torrealba rose high but his flying header hit the upright.
It was not going to be Kaizer Chiefs night as Orlando Pirates made up for the loss in the Vodacom Challenge, ten days ago.
